16 & Pregnant reality star Ashley Salazar and boyfriend Justin Lane were preparing for a baby. The couple happily shared the pregnancy with fans of the show on social media, telling viewers this child (unlike Callie, age four, the child she had in high school) would not be put up for adoption.
However, Ashley reveals in a new interview, she is no longer pregnant. The 22-year-old was out of her first trimester and made a routine doctor’s visit when she was informed the pregnancy was not viable and she would suffer a miscarriage.
“It has been really hard,” Ashley said in a new interview, adding that she is “really, really disappointed and upset.”
“I guess it wasn’t meant to be,” she said, “But I was prepared [for the worst], because at my eight-week checkup the doctor told me I was only measuring at six weeks.”
Denying rumours that she faked her pregnancy, she said, “The doctor told me I was going to have a miscarriage and that there was nothing I could have done to prevent that. They said that 50% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage.”
She adds of Justin, “We were really, really sad. We had been really excited about having another baby, but learning that it wasn’t happening so early was a blessing I guess. We were crying and upset and hurt.”
She had a D&C (Dilatation And Curettage) following the miscarriage, in the same hospital where she gave birth to Callie. “I was kind of scared, but they put me under and I was comfortable the whole time. There was no pain whatsoever, and I didn’t bleed for long at all,” she said.
“After everything has healed, we can try again,” she confessed. “I think that is when my relationship with Justin will be even better. And even though I was upset, I know everything happened for a reason. We had tough times in our relationship but this clearly wasn’t the right time to have a baby.”
The couple is planning to get engaged, down the line, “I know Justin has been saving up for a ring, but I don’t care about a big ring,” she added. “I told him we could even just get bands.”
