They had a private ceremony attended by family and friends and without the interference of the press this past Saturday in France.
They got their wedding license in California from a local judge. The same judge conducted the ceremony in France.
The wedding was held at Château Miraval, Correns. Newsday notes, it was a “non-denominational civil ceremony”.
According to PEOPLE, even local officials had no idea that there was a wedding. “No one in Correns knew a thing,” says an official from the French village. “It was a marriage which seems to have been carried out in total intimacy and absolute discretion.”
A rep confirms, their children were involved in the ceremony. Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10, walked Angelina down the aisle. Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, sprinkled petals on the ground. Shiloh, 8, and Knox, 6, were ring bearers.
The Associated Press broke the news that the wedding slipped under the radar between the VMAs and the Emmys. This afternoon, they tweeted, “BREAKING: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were married Saturday in France, says a spokesman for the couple.”
UPDATE: George Clooney has reacted, telling Us Weekly, “How great is that?! I’m really happy for Brad and Angie and their whole family.” Jolie’s father Jon Voight also reacted, saying simply “That’s nice.”
