Ariana Grande has been compared over and over to Mariah Carey.
The Problem singer has largely avoided the topic until now. However, she recently admitted that Mariah is an idol and it’s an honour to be compared to the great singer.
Being compared to Mariah Carey? One less problem! Since she broke out as a recording artist with the 2013 song “The Way,” former Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande has gotten endless musical comparisons to similarly multi-octaved vocalist Mariah Carey.
This doesn’t bother her, in fact, the “Problem” singer, 21, enjoys hearing it.
“Mariah has been a huge influence on me since I was a little girl,” the new Wat-Aah! water bottle spokeswoman exclusively tells Us Weekly. “I’ve even done a cover of one of her songs. I don’t think there are any negatives to being compared to one of the greatest vocalists of all time. It’s honestly a great honor.” [via Us Weekly]
Previously, however, disgruntled journalists blasted Ariana for her list of banned interview topics. Among them: any mention or comparison to Mariah Carey.
DON’T ask questions about:
(2) Mariah Carey
(3) Sam & Cat/Jennette McCurdy
(4) Working/collaborating with Justin Bieber
(5) Her grandfather passing away
Photographers were also given last-minute instructions from the Problem star’s minders.
*DON’T use natural light.
*DO shoot only from the left side of her face.
In other Ariana news, model Chrissy Teigen received backlash on Twitter for supposedly mocking Ariana’s cat ears. In a series of tweets that she later deleted, Chrissy wrote: “I love your cat ear headband it alerts me to immediately hate you.”
When called out, she responded “…what attack? is she the first and only to wear cat ears? slow news day.” Adding, “Also why the f**k would I tweet about SNL on a Monday night?”
