Ariana Grande is on a press tour of Australia for her new album. However, all the press it’s generated so far has been negative.
For example, Ariana performed at the Stand Up to Cancer event last week. Sources at the event claimed Ariana was a “total nightmare” backstage. She allegedly “demanded to be shot only on her left side” and “shouted at crew members for staring at her.”
Organisers denied this, claiming instead, “Ariana was wonderful to work with, very gracious and a consummate professional to our team and everyone at the Stand Up to Cancer telecast… Her moving performance of ‘My Everything,’ which she sang in honor of her grandfather who passed away from cancer, was one of the most emotional moments of the night. We were honored to have her join us.”
However, days later, there have been several more reports of hostile or difficult behaviour. The worst report, by far, alleged that she made diva demands and then walked out on her promotional duties.
Ariana Grande has an extra-large list of diva demands for her Australian chatfest. And most of them are don’ts rather than dos, resulting in the abrupt cancellation of Grande’s photo shoots today. All media who were granted an audience with the 21-year-old singer were instructed to steer clear of delicate topics during her promotional visit this week.
DON’T ask questions about:
(2) Mariah Carey
(3) Sam & Cat/Jennette McCurdy
(4) Working/collaborating with Justin Bieber
(5) Her grandfather passing away
Photographers were also given last-minute instructions from the Problem star’s minders.
*DON’T use natural light.
*DO shoot only from the left side of her face.
Grande’s first sitting for mX newspaper was a stop-start affair, with the singer checking each frame after it was taken and asking for shots she wasn’t pleased with to be deleted. After a few minutes she left the hotel suite, complaining to her reps that she was unhappy with how her top looked in the poses. Everyone assumed she had just gone back to her room at The Darling Hotel to change her outfit.
The remaining photographers waiting to capture the Bang Bang pop star’s close-up had already been put through their paces by the entertainer’s creative directors. Grande insists on being shot from the left and if you have lights, use those instead of the sunlight streaming in through the window on the gorgeous Sydney spring afternoon. After another 20 minutes of waiting for Grande to switch outfits, one of her representatives returned, demanding the mX photographer delete all his photos.
He refused and was later approached at his car by a member of the singer’s security team who attempted to prevent him closing the tailgate on his car as he stowed his equipment.
The singer then ditched the rest of the happy snaps session for various newspaper outlets including News Corp Australia. [via News.com.au]
One day later, another report alleged that Ariana was rude to the press.
She met the press ahead of her X Factor Australia performance, reports one outlet, and “Midway through a photo shoot with a media outlet, Grande decides she doesn’t like the photos and wants to change outfits and do the shoot again. She then demands the photos taken so far be destroyed and when the photographer refuses, she cancels the remaining photo shoot.”
She sat down with another outlet (an hour late) and was rude to their journalist. For example, reading that Ariana likes horror movies, the journalist asks about them. To which Ariana responds, “Everybody asks me about horror movies”.
Jokingly informed that she brought the pleasant weather with her, Ariana adds “I love the rain. I’m sorry I missed it.” And so on.
Also, “she seems agitated and obsessed with how she looks, especially her hair. She’s concerned that the top of her head not be in shot so she looks taller.”
