Joel, 40, recently spoke about what it was like filming alongside Benedict in particular. In short, he admits, it was completely terrifying. But not for the reason you might think. While they were shooting Black Mass, Benedicts fans would cause concern by acting a little obsessive. Or a lot obsessive. Over their celebrity crush. Following the cast from location to location in order to feel close to their fave.
“Benedict’s a wonderful guy and a wonderful actor, and he’s got this crazy legion of fans out there,” he told MSN Entertainment (via JustJared). “There was this one girl who would follow everywhere we were shooting. I would draw the curtain and look down, and there she is again. He’s a bit of a sex symbol, right?”
Previously, Benedict’s The Imitation Game co-star Keira Knightley said very much the same thing. His fans are terrifying. She told Late Night with Seth Meyers in November: “It’s terrifying. I mean, they’re lovely. I feel terrified saying they’re terrifying cause they might come after me. So… yes, it’s amazing! They’re very artistic! They paint pictures of him. You go to premieres and there’s these amazing paintings of Ben looking Ben-like… [They’re] a very hysterical, artistic type.”
