As reported earlier, Benedict Cumberbatch planned to marry Sophie Hunter on Valentine’s Day. According to a new report, they’ve just had their wedding. Congrats!
The pair had their wedding on Saturday 14 February. This means that earlier tabloid reports from the UK’s Daily Mail that the couple would marry 1) before the baby arrived 2) before the Oscars, were both correct.
According to PEOPLE, the wedding ceremony took place at the 12th century “St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church in Mottistone… on the Isle of Wight in England. A reception followed at Mottistone Manor.”
Locals say the “very pretty” church has a small capacity. “The church is not that big … I would say maybe 100 people maximum would fit in there,” said a source. “It’s a beautiful setting and very old English, very quaint and pretty.”
The pair brought their flowers, food etc. in from elsewhere rather than buying locally. There were 12 onlookers who watched the couple arrive at the church.
Previously, Benedict said of the public’s reaction to the engagement announcement: “One of the most incredible things about getting engaged, which we had no idea would be coming back our way, is the amount of love that just keeps flooding back… I thought it was just all abut us declaring that we were in love and getting married, but actually it’s the world going, ‘We love you too!’ It’s amazing. Family, friends, the world … it’s amazing.”
