Rita was scheduled to perform in Los Angeles and had already begun rehearsals. However, her producer ex-boyfriend blocked the performance of their collaboration, I Will Never Let You Down, out of “bitterness”.
A source told UK newspaper The Daily Mail (via The Mirror), “She had spent a considerable amount of time and energy preparing for her now cancelled performance of the song and is devastated to let her fans down in this way.”
“It is surprising that he has made such a poor choice,” adds the source. “This move by bitter Calvin has impacted not only the Teen Choice Award production but the teenage fans expecting to see her perform.”
“He’s let the teens down,” says the source.
Previously, it was reported that Calvin refused to let Rita keep the songs they’d worked on together. Immediately following news of the split, it was reported that Calvin gave the tracks to other artists. Leaving Rita to re-record nearly her whole album.
“Rita’s album has hit a bit of a road block after Calvin pulled all the songs he had worked on for the project before they split,” admitted a source last month. “He’d made a lot of songs for her but they’re now likely to go to other artists.”
“Calvin wants a clean break personally and professionally,” the source told The Sun. “He’s already given her one massive hit so doesn’t feel he owes her.”
