Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reportedly had “no contact” since they separated four weeks ago.
Instead, they’re doing everything through their lawyers. A family source told PEOPLE (via Daily Mail): “It’s just a sad situation”.
Angelina is seeking sole physical custody. Brad is seeking joint custody.
“They are still working on issues that they can’t agree on,” revealed an insider. “Things are strained between them.”
After three weeks of no interaction with his children, Brad recently had a visit.
Maddox, 15, was absent. A source told Us Weekly that Maddox “chose not to go and stayed with Angie.” (Incidentally, children over 14 in California can choose which parent they want to live with after a divorce).
The source adds, Maddox is very close with Angie.” (she adopted him in 2002; two years before she met Brad).
Why is Maddox so distant from Brad? “[Maddox] doesn’t really see himself as Brad’s son”, admits the Us source.
However, Maddox has not picked a side just yet. A source explains: “The hope is that this period of time will lead them to be able to resolve things without the involvement of the courts”.
In Touch Weekly says Vivienne and Zahara were at the visit and Brad broke down crying when he saw them. Leaving Brad “desperate” to secure a deal with Angelina.
“[Brad] had tears in his eyes and tried to hold it together because he didn’t want [the girls] to get upset because he was crying,” a source tells InTouch. “The visit was gut-wrenching… Vivienne and Zahara both started crying.”
In other news, Brad has reportedly been in constant contact with Angelina’s father, Jon Voight.
A source tells Us Weekly, “[Brad] told her dad that what he loves about her is how passionate and extreme she is… He’s been drawn to that.”
But Angelina is reportedly not pleased that Brad and Jon are talking about the split.
“She is really pissed at her dad,” says the source. “She is really bothered that he is talking to Brad. … Angelina is speaking to [Voight] but not a lot and not telling him hardly anything because she doesn’t trust him.”
