Bud Light is making headlines with its odd, tone-deaf marketing.
Buzzfeed notes, the beer has a new tagline. One that’s easy to read as a play on non-consent, “No means Yes”, alcohol-fuelled date rape. Rather than someone up for a carefree night.
The tagline on their bottles now reads:
“The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night”.
The image was posted to Reddit and has since gone viral. The company is yet to respond.
Previously, the company was criticised for another marketing campaign in which they seemed to imply that consent was not needed to make physical contact with strangers.
For St. Patrick’s Day, they tweeted: “On #StParticksDay you can pinch people who don’t wear green. You can also pinch people who aren’t #UpForWhatever.”
After their hashtag was criticised, hijacked and turned into #UpForLitigation and #UpForThingsIExplicitlyConsentTo, Budweiser deleted the offending tweet.
