Several of the new VH1 reality shows have flopped in the ratings.
Reviews were unflattering about the premiere episode of LeAnn & Eddie starring LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian that went on to give disappointing ratings at 374,000 viewers.
VH1’s Candidly Nicole starring Nicole Richie also underwhelmed at 550,000 viewers. The ratings haven’t gotten better since then, here are the ratings from early August for comparison.
The network expected Kardashian-style ratings as that’s how the shows were marketed. “Candid” but staged reality. To bolster the ratings, they also hoped Nicole would bring some celebrity friends on camera. Or allow producers to film more family life. However, she refused.
A source told Page Six, “VH1 wanted to position itself as the next E! and were depending on Nicole’s show to make a splash and boost ratings. But the show isn’t doing well, and they’re putting all the pressure on her — so now it’s putting a rift between Nicole and the network. She put in as much of her family that she felt comfortable with, but that isn’t what the show is about.”
A rep from VH1 denies any drama, however, claiming, “Nothing could be further from the truth. Nicole has been an invaluable partner through every step of Candidly Nicole. We’re thrilled with its performance so far, which has increased ratings in its time period over 50 percent compared to the same time last year, while bringing in a whole new wave of viewers. We’re excited to be talking to her about the future of the series.”
