Following the release of extended CCTV footage of Solange Knowles attacking her brother-in-law, Jay-Z, sources have tried to explain what really happened and, moreover, why neither Beyonce or Jay Z really reacted to the violence (that is, aside from the rapper defending himself).
A source told Us Weekly, “Solange has flipped her lid like that before. She is genuinely a sweet and nice person but she also keeps s**t real. She can take a small thing and it triggers her.”
“This is not the first time this has happened,” the source adds. “That’s why Bey and Jay were so calm. They are used to this from Solange. It has definitely happened before. It is a testament to Beyonce’s calm nature how she kept back and played the peacekeeper here. She is so calm and always the peacekeeper.”
“[Beyonce] wasn’t smiling, was hardly with Jay, she was off with Solange the whole time,” says an attendee at the May 5 Met Gala. “Beyonce does not approve of violence. They are trying to put the situation past them now.”
The leak of the video is currently being investigated. A staffer at The Standard Hotel, NY claims it got out because “The video was recorded on a cell phone from the monitors in the back room.”
The hotel issued an official statement about the video.
“We are shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system and the confidentiality that we count on providing our guests,” said a rep for The Standard Hotel. “We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity.”
UPDATE: Solange has indirectly addressed the scandal in an interview.
“When you make mistakes and act a fool in life, you are now thinking: I have a child I should be setting an example for,” Solange told Rebecca Minkoff of her son, Julez, 9. “That kind of growth and responsibility makes you a better you!”
