Giuliana Rancic has admitted that after some comments she made on Fashion Police, she received death threats.
Giuliana made a joke on Fashion Police that actress Zendaya’s dreadlocks must smell like “patchouli oil and weed.” Which was taken by many to be racist. Including former Fashion Police co-hosts Kathy Griffin and Kelly Osbourne, both of whom quit over what they felt was low-brow humour being used to bully people on the show.
Giuliana made two public apologies. She recalls, however, the backlash was still harsh.
“I started very quickly getting death threats,” she admits to PEOPLE Magazine. “People were sending me pictures of the barrel of a gun saying, ‘I’m going to kill your family.’ It was awful.”
“I made [the joke] as a reference to the hippie culture,” insists Giuliana, denying that she is racist. “It was a bohemian-chic reference, not about race, nor would it ever be.”
She continues, “It was horrifying to have my name in a headline with words I have never been associated with in my life.”
