Initially, the girls had trouble finding locations to live and work. They eventually secured some locations for free, in exchange for publicity. They also had trouble getting permission to film in the area. To get around this, the local mayor alleges producers lied. In any case, it’s too late… The girls have a location for their pop-up store and they’ve been given permission to film in the area.
According to multiple new reports, however, locals in The Hamptons are not pleased with the girls, their producers, or the girls’ new landlady, Irma Herzog.
“[Irma’s] being tormented and harassed by Southamptonites,” claims a source. “Irma lashed out at a friend after hearing he had set up a potential interview for her [to discuss the matter].”
A source tells the New York Post, “[The girls] have been looking at property on Little Plains Road in Southampton, and already the neighbors … don’t want the hassle of the entourage, the cameras, the paparazzi and all the fanfare that comes with this attention-seeking family.”
Southampton Village Mayor Mark Epley confirms, “We have had some reaction from some residents … the village is fairly quiet, and I think there is some concern.” He hopes their presence “becomes a non-event.”
Mark adds, the sisters “would have to follow all the guidelines [and officials] can control [the] day, time and place [of filming]. The issue for us has always been safety and quality of life.”
A local resident exclaims, “People are going to avoid Southampton! [Irma] should be brought up on charges.”
Adds a second resident, “I view [the Kardashian situation] like people viewed the plague in the Middle Age. I just want to survive it.”
A third gives some perspective, “We’ve had other circuses come to town — Sean Combs with his White Party, and ‘The Real Housewives of New York City.’ But we’ve never had paparazzi before. This will bring it to a whole other level… The Kardashians really repulse people because they are cheapening the [Hamptons] brand. Thank God they are only staying for three months.”
In addition to locals, Hamptons regulars Paris Hilton and Leonardo DiCaprio have reportedly both refused to be filmed for the show. “Leo didn’t want to be filmed for ‘Keeping Up’ and didn’t want to arrive until filming was over,” a source told Page Six.
