At the release of Kim Kardashian’s headline-grabbing Vogue cover with fiance Kanye West, a mysterious “source” leaked early projections for the issue, claiming the glossy fashion magazine would have blockbuster sales.
The early estimates cited by RadarOnline.com claimed Kim’s upcoming wedding and scandal would shift 500,000 copies on newsstands.
“The projections are that Kim and Kanye will likely sell almost 500,000 copies,” the magazine insider claimed. For context, Beyonce’s cover sold 355,000 and Michelle Obama’s cover sold 269,000.
However, now the issue has been on stands for a while, despite gloating that the issue “outsold FLOTUS,” it actually did not.
New York Post reporter Keith J. Kelly consulted with Josh Gary, VP of Mag Net Data (a company “that covers about 98 percent of the market”).
The actual sales data reveals, “The trends for Kim K. are definitely better than the prior month with Rihanna, to the tune of 20 percent better… I’d argue that if you peg last year’s Michelle Obama at 269,000, [the Kimye] issue will net out around 250,000.”
Asked about the disappointing sales, Vogue spokeswoman Hildy Kuryk said simply, “We never comment on sales figures.”
