Maci Bookout has shared her plans for the custody of her son, Bentley, shared with Ryan Edwards.
Fans speculated for years that Ryan had a serious substance abuse issue. They alleged that he looked “wild-eyed” and “out of it” in most of the recent episodes.
Fans also deduced that Ryan’s family and friends enabled him and covered up the extent of the alleged addiction.
Maci confirmed everyone’s suspicions this summer.
On an episode of Teen Mom, Maci talked about her concern for her ex-fiance, Ryan, and his personal issues. She also confirmed that she had not confronted him, yet.
Maci also expressed concern about how it may affect their son together, Bentley, 8.
In another episode of Teen Mom, Maci reveals her back-up plan if Ryan is not able to kick his issues in rehab.
In a scene from the show, Maci talks to a counselor about how to help an addict.
“I’m not really sure exactly what it is that he’s using,” Maci says (via InTouch).
She continues: “Sometimes he’ll fall asleep while you’re trying to have a conversation with him, or he’s extremely wide-eyed and he doesn’t look right.”
Maci talks about considering revoking custody if Ryan doesn’t get help.
“Yeah, I’m hoping it doesn’t have to get to that point, but that would be the ultimatum,” Maci said.
She continues: “The other aspect of that too would be, if I’m limiting access to him then I’m also gonna have to do that with his parents because they’re pretty much the sole caregivers of our son when he’s with his dad.”
The counselor admits that it sounds like Ryan’s parents, Jen and Larry, enable the addiction. Making recovery an “uphill battle”.
Since taping, Maci and Ryan’s wife, Mackenzie Standifer, have convinced him to enter treatment.
How did the women convince Ryan that he had a problem?
“There was back and forth between Maci and Mackenzie, but no yelling or anything like that,” a source tells E! News.
“They talked about Ryan and his drug issues.”
“Ryan is in rehab and has been in there about two weeks,” the source added. “They also said he’s doing well.”
