Gary Shirley and Matt Baier have made amends after an on-camera fallout.
Gary told his ex-fiancee, Amber Portwood, 25, that her new fiance, Matt, 44, had 7 kids and failed to pay child support. There have been a lot of stories and allegations. But Matt has set the record straight!
“I have five children [ranging in age from 13 to 25], and all of them have come from long-term relationships,” Matt told InTouch Weekly.
Previously it was claimed that Matt fathered between 7-10 children (depending on which sources you believed). The allegations came to light when 7 child support claims were filed against Matt.
On a prior episode of Teen Mom Gary claimed that Matt had 7 children. Amber reacted angrily. Matt denied the claim.
“There are not seven child support cases against me — that is completely not true. I paid child support for all my kids,” insisted Matt who is also divorced and a grandfather. “I have an arrangement where I pay for education and a few other things. [However,] I don’t have to pay for two of my girls because they have been emancipated.”
Matt insisted that Amber was not shocked by Gary’s claims. “Amber has met them and everyone gets along,” said Matt. He added that Amber’s daughter Leah Shirley has met his “younger kids.”
How does Matt feel about Gary now? “When he brought up the accusations, I was very hurt,” admitted Matt. “But since then, Gary’s been very apologetic. He looked me in the eyes and said, ‘I’m sorry.’”
“It’s sad that people are coming up with these crazy stories,” Matt added of the fan reaction. “Amber and I have a healthy relationship. We have no secrets from each other.”
