Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney has reacted to this weekend’s leak of over 150 hacked photos.
She is denying the photos purporting to be her are real. She also thanked her fans for their support.
She wrote early Monday morning, “the fake photos of me are crazy!! was trying to rise above it all, and not give “the creator” the time of day.. BUT…”, then she attached a photo saying the hacker “needs Jesus.”
She added, “shout out to my fans for defending me all day long.. even when things got weird u stood by me. and that meant the world.”
Victoria Justice also claims alleged photos of her are fake, writing “These so called [photos] of me are FAKE people. Let me nip this in the bud right now. *pun intended*”.
Ariana Grande tweeted of her alleged photos, “hell nah…. praying for the people who believed that was me lmaoo… my petite ass is much cuter than that”. Her rep added in a statement, “The photos are completely fake.”
UPDATE: McKayla has admitted the photos of her are REAL. Her lawyers appear to have admitted as much and they’re suing websites that have posted the content. Moreover, reps say, McKayla was underage when the photos were taken.
Not directly involved, Lena Dunham has offered her sympathy to the women involved.
In a series of tweets, the Girls actress condemned the leaker and everyone looking at the photos:
“The way in which you share your body must be a Choice. Support these women and do not look at these pictures… Remember, when you look at these pictures you are violating these women again and again. It’s not okay…
Seriously, do not forget that the person who stole these pictures and leaked them is not a hacker: they’re a sex offender.” [via Lena Dunham on Twitter]
