This dog has been abandoned by its owners. Left all alone in a train station, tied to a railing with just a little suitcase packed by the owners containing the dog’s belongings. Which means that over the holidays spent with friends, family and the family dog someone decided to abandon their pet forever with no one to look after it.
KSDK news reports, the incident took place in South Ayrshire, Scotland last Friday. As it’s a suspected act of animal neglect, the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is involved and seeking the owners.
The dog, a shar-pei mix, named Kai, age 3, said to be “a lovely dog with a nice nature” was found Friday “tied to a railing at the Ayr railway station in South Ayrshire”. Next to him, a suitcase containing his possessions including “a pillow, a toy, food bowl, and food”.
The dog was microchipped. However, the owner registration information was not up-to-date and so an old owner’s information was still stored on the chip. That person says they sold the dog on Gumtree.com (similar to Craigslist) in 2013. They claimed to have no records of whom they sold their old dog to.
The person or people who abandoned the dog at the station committed a crime. If the owner is found, they can be charged under Scotland’s Animal Health and Welfare Act 2006. If found guilty, they could get a lifetime ban on keeping pets.
SPCA Inspector Stewart Taylor said in a statement to Gawker: “Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible. If anyone can help we would ask them to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Kai is in the care of the SPCA until they can find him a new home.
