Former Jersey Shore reality stars Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola have split for good.
The couple began dating in 2009, the show’s premiere, and continued the relationship after the show’s 2012 cancellation. Now they confirm, the five-year relationship is over for good.
“We were drifting apart and not really spending any time together,” Ronnie, 28, told PEOPLE of his relationship with Sammi, 27. “I still care about her,” he said of splitting two-months ago. “She’s a great girl, but we were growing distant. It was for the best.”
“Me and Sammi aren’t together anymore,” he told Us Weekly. “We just grew our separate ways. She’s still a great person. I love her as a person and I care about her but we went our separate ways. That’s it.”
“At the end of the day, we went through a lot of stuff together,” he added. “We have a lot of history so I keep her close.” As such, he’s not ready to move on just yet. “No,” he said, “I’m not dating anyone.”
Ronnie says since the show he’s been taking acting lessons. “I’m actually in school right now at UCB for improv,” he told Us. “I’m on my second level. I’m actually going to scene study as well for acting… sharpening my tools as opposed to just jumping in. I have about two more years left and then we’ll see what happens.”
