Russell Simmons has lightly shaded friend Kanye West’s “obvious” designs and use of 30 stylists at the Yeezy Boost New York Fashion Week Show.
“I was there the night before,” said Russell of the preparation for the event. “Kanye had been locked in that studio for 72 hours . . . I left, went to Chris Rock’s birthday, came back, he’s still there at 2 a.m. . . . He had like 30 French and Italian guys running around, and everything that they did was inspired only by his direction.”
An insider has defended Kanye’s use of 30 stylists saying, “There was a team in place to make sure they were ready for the performance.”
Russell continued of his thoughts on the entire collection, “His style and influence is so obvious . . . I’m old, I’m 57, and I’ve got drop-crotch pants.”
The mogul went on to defend his friend after critics called Yeezy Boost “clothing a homeless person would wear after the apocalypse”. Russell added “There is no reason why his collection, which really is meticulously designed and overseen by him, should not be a big hit . . . [I wonder] if [those] who are supposed to be judging understand how much detail, how thoughtful that show was.”
An observant poster on ONTD compared Kanye’s collection to Mugatu’s Derelicte designs in Zoolander.
Previously, multiple sources noted that North West cried all through her dad’s fashion show and then cried all through Alexander Wang’s fashion show. Sources claim the parents bring their kid to late events, keep her up at night, have her around adults rather than other kids (and dress her all in black) “Because they can… because they want to”.
