The landlord who evicted Jon Gosselin for non-payment, Linda Eways, alleges that he left behind a kitten in the move.
Linda and husband James Eways rented the property and she did an inspection once Jon had left. “I showed up to take a look at the house after Jon was supposed to have been entirely moved out, and what I found completely shocked and infuriated me,” she tells Star. Adding that there was garbage everywhere plus damage from Jon’s dog. “I was so frustrated by the entire situation that I had to leave and give him one more day to entirely move.”
She also alleges that he left behind a kitten. “We called Jon and asked him about the kitten, and he seemed unconcerned, saying it belonged to his ex girlfriend Liz [Janetta], who left in September. He just left her there. It broke my heart, but we adopted her.”
Previously, it was reported that Jon was evicted from his “dream” home only 10 minutes away from his ex-wife and their kids because he fell behind several months of payments. He missed his June payment, missed July and August, and the payment to cover the missed rent bounced. The Eways took him to court to recover the money after he missed the September payment too. They won, but Jon never paid the amount owed.
“Jon never came up with the money and was squatting in our home for four months,” Linda adds. “It’s a shame because we offered to make his payment plan as easy as possible. He would always laugh off any help and tell us that he had plenty of money and didn’t need a mortgage, because he could have easily paid for the house in cash.”
A source told Star, “Jon didn’t understand the terms of the contract and broke the lease, thinking he could just rent the property after agreeing to the rent to own the contractual agreement. Evidently, he didn’t understand the terms of the contract.” Another source told E!, “He could no longer afford the rent”.
He asked for reduced rent, the owners refused. “That wasn’t what we agreed on,” James explains. “We want to eventually be able to sell the property and get it off our hands, and that wasn’t going to happen.”
Jon has since moved into a much smaller property. “He’s moved into an apartment — but his kids can’t even stay the night because there isn’t enough room,” admits a source. “He’s flat broke and has nowhere to turn.”
Jon denies the reports completely, however. Insisting, “What [the owners] are saying is not completely true. Now they are in deep trouble. I’ve already filed with the courts. I have nothing more to say about the situation.”
