Tami Roman and her partner, Reggie Youngblood, are currently starring on Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars.
Throughout the show, Reggie has been very verbal about his desire, at age 28, to get married and have a child. In the first few episodes of Marriage Boot Camp, he added that he wanted biological kids, with Tami, and wouldn’t even consider adoption. Tami was reluctant, at first, insisting she was “over” marriage and kids at age 45.
However, a few days ago, she confirmed… she’s pregnant! She told fans, she is six-weeks pregnant by Reggie (they also did a pregnancy test on the show, filmed a few months ago, when she fell ill, but that test was negative).
Now, Tami explains what it’s like to be expecting a child at age 45 and why she chose to confirm the news in the first trimester.
Tami told Necole Bitchie: “I am in a committed relationship with a younger man who has never had children. In an effort to compromise for the benefit of our relationship, and because I am in love with this person, I decided to have a child with him and I am happy I made the decision to do so.”
She added of why so early: “I don’t know…wanting to share my excitement with the people who have shown me love. I hope I didn’t jinx myself. I hope and pray that will not be the case.”
Is she afraid of giving birth? “I’m not going to act like I’m not afraid. Deciding to have a child at the age of 45 is very risky and when I first found out that I was definitely pregnant I went through a lot of emotions; fear, excitement, anxiety and stress.”
How did she deal with the stress? She explained, “I find resolve in knowing that the person I am having this child with absolutely adores me and wants to build a family with me so I’m excited about the possibility of that.”
Tami names Halle Berry, Alyssa Milano, Gwen Stefani and Julianna Margulies as inspirations, adding that she had no issues conceiving. She explains, “Other women have done it and received nothing but congratulations, [so] not sure why my announcement was viewed so negatively.”
