R&B singer-songwriter Tameka “Tiny” Harris (she co-wrote No Scrubs), wife of rapper T.I., recently had a cosmetic procedure to change her eye colour from brown to grey.
She appeared on the Wendy Williams Show weeks ago and posted to Instagram with the new eye colour but people assumed they were contacts. However, Tiny later confirmed that she had the colour changed and it’s permanent.
Tiny appeared on Good Morning America to talk about the procedure and admitted that she got the surgery in Africa because similar procedures are illegal in America.
“I looked in the mirror and I was, like, ‘they’re amazing,'” she recalled of waking up after the surgery.
“They go into the eye and they make a little slit,” she explained of the procedure. “They take an implant and it’s folded up. They open it [and] spread it over your eye.”
She continued, “They told me that the procedure was going to be quick, five to 10 minutes an eye. They woke me up. It was very blurry… then it kind of fades in.”
New York ophthalmologist James Tsai, clinical spokesman for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, warned that the cosmetic version of this procedure can lead to “glaucoma, cataracts, bleeding in the eyes and corneal problems.”
Tiny doesn’t seem concerned and wrote on Instagram after the news broke, “Huge thanks to the incredible doctor(s) for the amazing experience and for making my dream come true! I hated wearing contacts just for the color and it made my vision blurry!” She added, “Blessed to say my vision is #perfect after my #ice-gray implants! Special thanks to the #Brightocular staff for ALL that you’ve done to make this process happen, you’re amaZing & thank you to the hospital’s staff for your exceptional customer service as well!!”
