Tyler Baltierra claims MTV is editing Teen Mom footage to make him look bad.
Some fans have turned against Tyler in the past few weeks.
Recent storylines show Tyler expressing disappointment and fatigue over his wife’s mental health and personal issues. His wife and co-star, Catelynn, went to therapy for 30 days. However, Tyler is concerned because Catelynn has not been doing the correct aftercare.
Tyler has been making comments about his wife’s weight too. He also suggested he thought about leaving her.
However, all is not as it seems… Tyler explains why fans are seeing so much negative footage.
Tyler claims he is edited to look like a “piece of s**t.”
For example: during a scene where Catelynn skips her aftercare appointments, Tyler is shown saying he cannot cope anymore: “Walking through life like a log,” he tells her. “I can’t do this forever, there is no way, not like this. I guess that would be a way of losing you if that ever happened.” However, Tyler insists, this particular comment was made BEFORE rehab. Not after, as depicted on the show.
Tyler explains how producers are manipulating footage to make him look bad (and this is a known production trick): that whenever the show cuts away from his face/mouth while he’s talking it’s because they’re splicing in audio from past conversations.
“That line was from a previous conversation BEFORE treatment,” he told fans. “Facts: If you don’t see my face but hear my voice, they pulled it from another scene.”
So why was Catelynn crying? Tyler explains: that was during unrelated and “unaired questions from a producer.”
But is Tyler quitting the show in protest? “I signed up for it,” he told a fan on Twitter (via RadarOnline). “But I guess I can be the POS baby daddy this season, if it helps the ratings.”
Here is an old example of how reality TV shows edit their participants to fit a certain narrative, taken from Charlie Brooker’s Screen Wipe in 2007.
